폭설이 내린 이른 아침에 동네 호수를 산책하다가 나무가지에 앉아 있는 Bald Eagle을 찍었습니다. 미국의 상징이기도 하며 American Eagle로 불리는데, 왜 '대머리 독수리'라고 할까요? 가끔 동물의 왕국에서 볼 수 있는 머리에 털이 하나도 없는 조금은 징그럽게 생긴 독수리와 혼동되기도 합니다. America Eagle의 과학적인 명칭은 White-headed sea eagle이라는 군요. 앉아 있는 자태와 눈매가 역시 멋집니다.
I happened to see a bald eagle sitting on the branch of a big tree while walking around the nearby lake. The bald eagle is the symbol of the United States, and it appears on the most official government seals. By the way, why is it called 'bald eagle' even though it has feathers on the head? It is also confused with the ugly eagles which are really bald without any feathers on the head, which can be seen often in the TV documentaries, Animal Kingdom. The scientific name of the American Eagle is a white-headed sea eagle, and it is not actually bald. This eagle looks strong and elegant.
